Roman Blinds Cost per Sq Ft: Fabric, Lining and Fit
Roman blinds are priced within our ₹130 to ₹350 per sq ft range, including installation. More than any other blind, their price depends on the fabric and lining you choose: a plain fabric with standard lining sits lower in the range, while designer fabrics with blackout or thermal lining sit higher. The style, mechanism and size also play a part.
What you're paying for
- The face fabric — the part you see.
- The lining — protection from sun, extra darkness or insulation.
- Construction — rod pockets, rings and careful stitching so the folds sit evenly.
- The mechanism — cord and cleat, chain and clutch, or motor.
- Measuring and installation, included in our price.
Fabric: the biggest variable
Plain polyester and cotton blends cost less than linen, textured weaves, velvets and designer prints. Large pattern repeats also need extra fabric so the pattern lines up across the blind and with neighbouring windows.
Lining options
- Unlined: lowest cost; lets light filter through.
- Standard lining: protects the fabric from fading and helps the folds keep their shape.
- Blackout lining: makes the blind suitable for bedrooms; adds to the cost.
- Thermal or interlining: adds body and insulation; the most premium option.
Style
Flat romans use the least fabric. Relaxed romans are similar. Cascade (hobbled) romans keep soft folds even when lowered, so they need noticeably more fabric and stitching.
Mechanism and size
A cord and cleat is the most economical; a chain and clutch is smoother and safer; motors are quoted separately. Roman blinds look and work best at moderate widths, so very wide windows are usually split into two or three blinds.
Worked examples
At ₹130 to ₹350 per sq ft, installation included:
- Nursery window, 3 × 4 ft (12 sq ft): ₹1,560 to ₹4,200
- Bedroom window, 4 × 5 ft (20 sq ft): ₹2,600 to ₹7,000
- Living room window, 5 × 5 ft (25 sq ft): ₹3,250 to ₹8,750
A plain fabric with standard lining lands lower in each range; designer fabric with blackout lining towards the top.
Roman vs roller on cost
Roman blinds generally cost more than a standard roller blind of the same size, because they use more fabric, need lining and involve more stitching. In return you get a softer, more tailored look that suits bedrooms and living rooms.
Ways to save
- Choose a plain or small-repeat fabric to avoid pattern wastage.
- Use standard lining where darkness isn't needed.
- Pick flat over cascade styles.
- Use romans where they're seen and roller blinds in secondary rooms.
What to check in a roman blind quote
- The fabric name, colour and pattern repeat.
- The lining type.
- The style (flat, relaxed or cascade).
- The mechanism and child-safety device.
- The mounting position — inside the recess or above the window.
